David Goodfield's last-minute goal gave England's men a 3-2 victory over Spain in the Hockey Pro League.

Goodfield reacted sharply to divert the ball into the goal when a penalty corner led to pinball in the Spanish D, and the goal ensured that England did the double over Spain at Valencia's Estadio Betero.

Nick Bandurak had given England a second-quarter lead, seizing on a rebound, but Antonio Sanz's poacher's effort drew Spain level.

Duncan Scott restored the English lead with a classy finish after the interval, but Spain moved level again Xavier Gispert expertly scored on his reverse stick.

With both teams pressing for a winner it was England who found it, through Goodfield's quick reactions.

The result means England remain top of the early men's Pro League table, with two wins from two and a 100 per cent points rate.

Spain are above bottom-of-the-table Germany - who have also played two, lost two - on goal difference only.

The Netherlands and Spain drew 2-2 in late game at the Estadio Betero in the women's Pro League.

Yibbi Jansen scored a brace for the Dutch - reigning world, Olympic and Pro League champions - but Patricia Alvarez and then Xantal Gine twice drew the hosts level.

The Netherlands the ensuing shootout 3-2, with Jansen Maria Verschoor and Pien Sanders all scoring.
