France's Yannick Borel and Katrina Lehis of Estonia took épée victories at the International Fencing Federation (FIE) Grand Prix in Qatar.

Borel won the men's event to record his first Grand Prix win since triumphing in Cali in Colombia back in May 2018.

Borel defeated compatriot Aymerick Gally 15-10 in the final at the Aspire Dome in Doha.

It was the third time out of six bouts on the day that Borel had faced a fellow Frenchman, as a field of 64 was whittled down to one.

Gally had drawn plaudits after he defeating pre-tournament favourite Masaru Yamada of Japan 15-11 in the round of 16, but he could not recreate the performance against Rio 2016 team gold medallist Borel.

In the women's event, Lehis also defeated a compatriot in the final in the form of Nelli Differt.

Double Tokyo 2020 medallist Lehis prevailed 15-11, greatly improving on her last appearance at the Qatar Grand Prix in 2020 when she finished 26th .

Lehis narrowly defeated world number eight Marie-Florence Candassamy of France 15-14 to set up the all-Estonian clash in the final.

Lehis also defeated Poland's Renata Knapik-Miazga, Italian Alberta Santuccio, Laura Staehli of Switzerland and Germany's Alexandra Ehler.
