Defending champions Argentina beat Canada 5-2 in their semi-final, while Chile edged out the United States in a shootout - a result which saw them qualify for the World Cup for the first time.

Argentina, who have won the last two Pan American titles, and Chile will be joined at the 2023 World Cup in India by either Canada or the US, who will play for bronze and the third ticket to next year's tournament.

The women's final, scheduled to be held tomorrow, will also be between Argentina and Chile.

Argentina, ranked seventh in the world, went ahead in the second quarter of their clash with Canada - a repeat of the 2013 and 2017 finals - through Jose Tolini's strike.

The damage was done in the third as Tolini and Frederico Fernandez made it 3-0 to the reigning champions.

Tomas Domene added a fourth to put the result of the match beyond any doubt.

Canada briefly halved the deficit thanks to goals from Devohn Noronha and Matthew Sarmento, before Maico Casella rounded off the scoring with Argentina's fifth late on.

Chile, whose women also qualified for the World Cup for the first time, and the US played out a nervy 0-0 draw in the other semi-final.

The contest went to a shootout and it was Chile who prevailed, sparking wild scenes of celebration from the host nation.

"For Chileans this is historical, it has never happened before," Chile's Felipe Renz said.

"Today it's time to celebrate with the team, but tomorrow we must focus on the game. 

"It's a tremendous joy for the team. 

"We will have a full year of training and self-commitment with this new goal."
