Olympic champions Adam Peaty, Tom Dean and Anna Hopkins headline England's swimmers for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham as the host country's first swimmers have been selected.

In total, 10 athletes have been named in the initial selection with each one reaching at least one individual final at Tokyo 2020.

Peaty and Dean clinched gold medals with stunning performances in the men's 100 metres breaststroke and 200m freestyle, respectively.

Peaty will be defending his 100m breaststroke title at Birmingham 2022 after winning the event at Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018.

In Scotland he also won gold in the 4x100m medley.

Peaty and Dean were also part of the record-breaking quartet who triumphed for Britain in the mixed 4x100m relay in Tokyo.

Anna Hopkin was also a part of that team and will be competing for England in Birmingham later this year.

"It’s always a privilege to be selected to represent my country and I’m so excited about a home Commonwealth Games, especially one that is so close to the area I grew up in," said Peaty, who was born in Uttoxeter.

"Having the home crowd in the stands supporting us gives me even more motivation to perform my best and inspire those people watching.

"I can’t wait to represent Team England again!"

Triple Commonwealth Games champion Ben Proud, Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018 gold medallist James Wilby and Gold Coast 2018 silver medallist Luke Greenbank have also made the team.

The delegation also includes European champions Luke Greenbank, Molly Renshaw and Abbie Wood, as well as 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games gold medallist Alicia Wilson.

"This is an exceptional Swimming team selected to represent Team England in Birmingham this summer," said England's Chef de Mission Mark England.

"It contains World, Olympic, and Commonwealth Champions and medal winners and I’m confident they will perform with distinction at what will undoubtedly be a very competitive swim meet.

"I’m really looking forward to the whole Swimming Team building in the coming months, and of course excited to see them compete in the spectacular new competition pool in Sandwell."

Swimming events at Birmingham 2022 are scheduled to take place at the under-construction Sandwell Aquatics Centre from July 29, the day after the Opening Ceremony, to August 3.

The Games are due to close on August 8.
