Dylan Alcott took one step closer to claiming his seventh Australian Open wheelchair quad singles title after defeating Britain's Andy Lapthorne 6-3, 6-0 in the semi-finals in Melbourne.

The home favourite and number one seed defeated Lapthorne in 69 minutes in a performance characterised by a powerful service game at Melbourne Park.

Alcott averaged an impressive 74 miles per hour (mph) on his first serves with a fastest delivery of 85mph.

The win sets up a final with Sam Schröder in what will be the last game of Alcott's career before he retires at the end of the tournament.

The Dutchman smashed 24 winners and eight break points past Australian Heath Davidson as he cruised past the 34-year-old 6-1, 6-2 in 57 minutes.

Reaching this year's semi-final is Davidson's career best finish at the competition.

The 37-year-old came from behind to beat The Netherlands' Tom Egberink 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 in a 2hr 54min epic.

A contrasting affair unfurled in the other semi-final as Britain's Alfie Hewett blitzed Frenchman Stephane Houdet 6-1, 6-1 in less than an hour.

Hewett hit five fantastic aces past his opponent in a comprehensive display.

Hewett beat Kunieda in the 2021 semi-finals but lost to Belgium's Joachim Gérard in the final.

The 24-year-old is yet to win the Australian Open.

An all-Dutch battle awaits in the women's wheelchair singles.

Shuker produced a spirited performance but was let down by her seven double faults as she loss after 62 minutes.

Her countrywoman and former world number one, Aniek Van Koot, beat South Africa's Kgothatso Montjane 6-3, 6-4.
