Slopestyle, big air, knuckle huck, super pipe and Special Olympics unified snowboarding and skiing events are all set to be contested as the X Games returns to Aspen for a 21st straight year.

Each day will also feature live music acts as the organisers are eager to stay true to the event's party atmosphere.

The action begins at 10:30am MST tomorrow with the women's snowboard slopestyle, followed by the women's ski big air and the Special Olympics unified snowboarding and skiing.

Jamie Anderson headlines the eight-strong women's snowboard slopestyle field in Colorado.

The California-native is the most decorated woman in X Games history with a total of 19 medals - eight gold, seven silver and four bronze - and is still at the peak of her powers at the age of 32.

At last year's event, Anderson won double gold in the slopestyle tournaments which marked her seventh overall, the most of any athlete.

She also claimed her first big air victory and is expected to impress once more.

Mark McMorris is the one to watch in the men's snowboard slopestyle with four medals in the discipline.

The Canadian won his 19^th and 20^th X Games medals in 2020 to surpass a record 18 held by the United States' Shaun White since 2008.

He continues to push sporting boundaries, despite suffering a near-fatal crash in the British Columbia backcountry in March 2017.

The Games will be free to attend as long as spectators can provide proof of being fully vaccinated.

Fans aged 11 and under without vaccination are allowed to attend if they wear a form-fitting facemask and are accompanied by an inoculated adult.

ESPN and ABC have secured broadcasting rights which will enable them to showcase 13.5 hours of live competition while 7.5 additional hours will be livestreamed on the event's social media channels.

All 21 hours will be available live on the ESPN app.

Competition is scheduled to run until Sunday January 23.
