Anthony Zambrano has been honoured as Colombia's Olympic athlete of the year at the country's Olympic Sports Gala following his achievements at Tokyo 2020 while Mariana Pajón and Lorena Arenas have taken silver and bronze, respectively.

The trio all won a silver medal at the postponed Games.

Zambrano came second in the men's 400 metres, Pajón in the women's BMX and Arenas in the women's 20 kilometres race walk.

In September, Zambrano became the number one sprinter in the 400m world rankings and currently occupies fourth place.

The 23-year-old also set a new South American record of 43.93 seconds in the discipline.

Pajón, who won gold at London 2012 and Rio 2016, missed out on her third consecutive gold in Japan after losing out to Britain's Beth Shriever but was crowned champion of the BMX Supercross World Cup later in the year.

She remains the world's highest ranked athlete in her discipline.

Arenas became the first Colombian athlete to win an Olympic medal in the race walk after her performance in the summer.

Compound archer Sara López, skater Luz Karime Garzón and bowler Juliana Franco were awarded as the three best athletes in non-Olympic sports at the ceremony.

López was crowned world champion of the individual and team compound events at the World Archery Championships in the United States in September.

Garzón ended the 2021 Ibagué World Skating Championships as the most decorated athlete with three golds and one silver medal, while Franco's bronze at the World Bowling Championships and silver in the Pan American Senior Championships saw her congratulated.

Leonardo García lifted the gold award in the "Promise of the Year" category following his silver medal at the Junior Diving World Championships in Kyiv.
