Both players headed into the final with recent success at the Black Ball Sporting Club.

El Sherbini won the platinum version of the competition back in March, having suffered defeat to El Hammamy in the 2020 final.

World number one El Sherbini made the brightest start in the final of Professional Squash Association gold event, taking the opening game 11-7.

El Hammamy responded by edging the second 11-9.

It marked the first game world champion El Sherbini had dropped in the tournament.

El Sherbini regained the momentum in the match, losing just one point in a dominant run to secure the third game 11-1.

Despite a late rally from El Hammamy, she was unable to prevent her rival from winning the fourth game, as El Sherbini completed an 11-7, 9-11, 11-1, 11-7 victory.

"Black Ball has always been a special event for me and I love to play here," said El Sherbini.

"From the first event, I reached about four finals and lost in them, so to be stood here having won two Black Ball Opens is an honour for me. 

"I lost one of the finals against Hania.

"It was her first Platinum event and I’m sure it’s not going to be the last."

Attention will turn to the men’s competition tomorrow.

Top seed Ali Farag of Egypt will play Spain’s Iker Pajares Bernabeu in the second round of the competition.

Second seed Paul Coll of New Zealand and Egypt’s Tarek Momen, the third seed, will also be in action.
