The Chilean Olympic Committee (COCH) has introduced a certification programme for coaches in a bid to improve skill levels across sport.

COCH President Miguel Ángel Mujica, vice-president Aquiles Gomez and the secretary general and director of education, Jaime Agliati, were all present for the launch of the scheme.

It has been developed to further the classification, recognition, development and improvement of the skills, knowledge and experiences of coaches.

Different levels of certification will be on offer.

This will allow the establishment of professional profiles for coaches, categorising the knowledge of coaches and what level of development they have.

"Certifying the technical level of the coaches and at the same time recognising their capabilities will allow us to take a big step to improve this fundamental link of the sport, both in its formative stage and in high performance," said Mujica.

Coaches will be able to apply for six different types of licenses across areas including coaching beginners, sport specialisation and high-performance coaching at three different levels.

"We are facing a unique programme, which will regulate the professional market in the field of sport, which will standardise the quality of education and training of sports coaches, and which will classify and qualify each one of them, integrally improving their different levels of training," said COCH education manager Leonardo Lucero.

Each license will have a duration of four years.
