Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt extended his lead in the overall standings of the men's International Ski Federation Alpine Ski World Cup after his victory in the giant slalom event in the French resort of Val d’Isère.

Odermatt secured his second giant slalom win of the season, clocking 2min 12.31sec across his two runs.

He produced a time of 1:07.14 on the first run, and bettered it with a 1:05.44 on the second, moving him onto 446 points for the season.

That gives him a 136-point lead at the top.

Second place went to France's Alexis Pinturault, who finished 0.59sec behind Odermatt.

The home favourite moves up to fourth in the overall standings on 209 points for the season.

Rounding off the podium in Val d’Isère was Austrian Manuel Feller, notching 2:13.55.

Missing out on a medal by just 0.07sec was Italy's Luca De Aliprandini.

Another World Cup at the Face de Bellevarde is scheduled for tomorrow, this time in the slalom discipline.

Matthias Mayer of Austria is in second place for this season's circuit after seven legs, with back-to-back wins in Beaver Creek helping Norway's Aleksander Aamodt Kilde into third.

They have 310 and 229 points respectively.
