Denmark and Norway upset higher-ranked opposition to reach the quarter-finals of the Women's World Floorball Championship in Uppsala, while Slovakia got there in emphatic style.

Norway defeated Latvia in the first playoff match, scoring seven consecutive goals after falling behind to establish a 7-1 lead.

Latvia fought back, but the damage was done and Norway won 9-6, with Karen Farnes bagging a hat-trick.

Germany's match with Denmark finished 4-4 in regulation, so added time and then penalties was required.

Slovakia smashed the United States 20-0 in one of the day's other playoffs, with 10 different players scoring.

Poland also advanced, defeating a National Floorball Federation of Russia side 7-3.

The Poles are due to contest the first last-eight match at IFU Arena tomorrow, versus Finland.

Hosts and defending champions Sweden play Norway in the day's other quarter-final.
