Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi has revealed that he has tested positive for COVID-19 only a day after a historic victory at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup in Ruka.

The 25-year-old on Saturday (November 27) become the first Japanese man to win 20 FIS Ski Jumping World Cup competitions with his victory at the Rukatunturi ski jumping hill in the Finnish resort.

He has now revealed that he is the unidentified member of the Japanese squad that had returned a positive test for coronavirus.

According to the FIS, the athlete was asymptomatic, but has been placed into isolation.

On his Twitter account, Kobayashi posted that he had already been infected with coronavirus in June and he has been fully vaccinated.

Kobayashi had leapfrogged countrymen and Nordic combined skiers Kenji Ogiwara and Akito Watabe to join an elite group to boast at least 20 individual FIS World Cup victories.

With his 53 wins, Austrian ski jumper Gregor Schlierenzauer leads the all-time ranking.

"I didn't have the [Japan] record wins in mind but I'm frankly happy," the 2018-2019 overall FIS Ski Jumping World Cup champion had said following the victory.

"My second jump was really good.

"I've been performing well so I hope to keep this up."

Saturday's event was the first of two Ski jumping World Cup competitions in Ruka, but Kobayashi was forced to miss yesterday's event won by Slovenia's Anže Lanišek.

America's Dean Decker and Poland's Clemens Muranka, who had contracted the coronavirus during the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup in Nizhny Tagil in Russia earlier this month, have been released from hospitals in Yekaterinburg.

At present, the athletes have already returned to the training process, Andrei Kascha, press secretary of the World Cup stage in Nizhny Tagil, told Russia’s official State news agency TASS.

"Dean Decker was released from the Yekaterinburg clinic after several negative PCR and antigen tests," said Kascha.

"The athlete is now in Slovenia and is preparing to take part in the third stage of the World Cup in the Polish Vistula at the end of this week.

"Clemens Muranka was released from the Yekaterinburg clinic on Saturday in the evening - also after all the negative tests.

"Now he is in Poland and will probably also start at the home stage in Wisla."
