A potential repeat appeared on the cards when Chochuwong won the opening game of their Indonesian Open quarter-final match 21-6, only for top seed Yamaguchi to win the second 23-21.

Chochuwong was eventually able to overcome her rival, as she triumphed 21-11 in the decider to secure a semi-final spot in the BWF World Tour Super 1000 event.

South Korea’s An Se-young will face Chochuwong in the semi-finals, as she seeks to win back-to-back events in Indonesia.

Axelsen will now play Indonesia’s Jonathan Christie, who received a walkover after tournament third seed Anders Antonsen of Denmark was forced to withdraw through injury.

Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew backed up his victory over top seed Kento Momota yesterday, as he clinched a 21-9, 21-4 win over Denmark’s Hans-Kristian Vittinghus.

Loh will play Rasmus Gemke in the last four, after the Danish player beat Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto 21-18, 21-17.

Baek Ha-na and Lee Yu-rim will play in the women's doubles semi-finals after beating top seeds Kim So-yeong and Kong Hee-yong 18-21, 21-19, 21-15 in an all-South Korean quarter-final.

Japan's Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida will provide the opposition in the last four.

The second semi-final sees Indonesia's Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu play Thailand's Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai in a meeting between the second and third seeds.

Top men's doubles seeds Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia will face India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty in the last four.

The winners will face either Akira Koga and Taichi Saito or Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi, who will play in an all-Japanese tie.

Thailand's Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai, the mixed doubles top seeds, face Ko Sung-hyun and Eom Hye-won of South Korea for a place in the final.
