Marita Kramer of Austria, who has won the last four women’s Ski Jumping World Cup legs, topped qualifying at the first event of the new season in Nizhny Tagil, Russia.

Kramer, one of six Austrians in the field, topped the standings with 119.8 points, after registering a distance of 96 metres.

Sara Takanashi of Japan, who finished two points above Kramer in last season’s overall World Cup standings, ended in second place with 114.5 points, after jumping 93 metres.

Katharina Althaus of Germany qualified in third place with 111.3 points, after registering a jump of 111.3 points.

Ursa Bogataj of Slovenia qualified in fourth with 110.5 points after registering a jump of 89.5 points.

Last season’s Crystal Globe winner Nika Križnar, also from Slovenia, finished fifth in qualifying, scoring 106.6 points after registering a distance of 87.5 metres.

Normal hill world champion and fellow Slovenian Ema Klinec finished in sixth, with a score of 105.7 points after a jump of 88 metres.

Back-to-back World Cup competitions are scheduled on the resort’s normal hill tomorrow and Saturday (November 27).
