The International University Sports Federation (FISU) has thrown its support behind sports officiating at the International Federation for Sports Officials (IFSO) General Assembly.

FISU is a founding member of the IFSO, which commenced in 2019.

The IFSO held its General Assembly in The Hague in The Netherlands, which FISU attended to share knowledge and best practices regarding sports officiating.

The General Assembly, held on October 30, was led by IFSO President Patrick Vajda.

The Assembly included a review of recent activities, a vote on the election of the Board, and a review of current and upcoming projects.

Many of these projects are focused on attaining and retaining young sports officials, with declining numbers among younger generations.

"Sports officials are what make sport what it is today," said FISU secretary general and chief executive Eric Saintrond.

"What IFSO continues to do by providing a voice for sports officials has created a whole new interest in that side of sport.

"For FISU, we see much potential for collaboration here, especially when it comes to talented young people who have a passion for sport in this way."
