The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has approved the uniforms to be worn by Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) athletes at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics next year, according to ROC President Stanislav Pozdnyakov.

Pozdnyakov spoke with Russian state news agency TASS and said the IOC had given the country the green light.

An official launch is now expected next month.

"We finally got the uniform approved by the IOC a week ago," said Pozdnyakov.

"There were some difficulties, there was a discussion.

"However, we were able to convince our colleagues on the main points.

"The idea will be similar to the one we had in Tokyo: the ROC emblem will be placed as well as all the colours of the Russian tricolour.

"At the beginning of December, the Zasport company will present it to the public."

Russia must compete under a neutral flag at the Olympic Games and World Championships until December 2022 due to sanctions imposed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and partially upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

WADA initially handed Russia a four-year ban after doping data at the Moscow Laboratory was found to be manipulated, but this was later reduced on appeal to two years by CAS.

In the CAS ruling, the court declared that Russian symbols could not be used on the team's uniforms but that the red, white and blue colours of the flag would be allowed.

The guidelines also stipulate that if the uniform contains or displays the name "Russia" in any language or format, the words "neutral athlete" - or an equivalent - must be displayed in English in a position and size that is no less prominent than the name "Russia".
