Karolina Plíšková recovered from a set and a break down to defeat compatriot Barbora Krejčíková and keep her hopes of a WTA Finals place alive in Guadalajara.

A series of fierce forehands from Krejčíková combined with a host of unforced errors from Plíšková, saw the second seed race through the opening set 6-0.

Krejčíková led 4-2 in the second set and was just two games away from victory, but after grinding out a hold of serve to reduce the gap to one game, Plíšková produced back-to-back breaks of serve to take set two 6-4.

Powerful serving and accurate forehands helped Plíšková save break points before at 5-4 she created three of her own on her opponent’s serve, taking the last of these to seal a remarkable turnaround and take the match 0-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Plíšková now awaits the outcome of the later match in the Group Teotihuacán, needing Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit, who is already through, to beat Garbiñe Muguruza if she is to qualify at the Spaniard’s expense.

In the opening doubles match of the day, Australia's Sam Stosur and China's Shuai Zhang defeated second seeds Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara 4-6, 6-3, 10-7.

Aoyama and Shibahara now move to a record of two wins and one defeat, while Stosur and Zhang move to one win and two losses.
