Canada's Alysia Rissling secured her second straight victory on home soil at the season-opening International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) Women's Monobob World Series in Whistler.

Rissling backed up her win yesterday by again topping the podium at Whistler Sliding Centre.

The 32-year-old, who piloted the first all-woman team to compete in an official four-man bobsleigh race in 2015, clocked a combined 1min 52.60sec in her two runs.

Rissling finished 1.27 seconds quicker than American Brittany Reinbolt, who finished as the runner-up for the second consecutive race in 1:53.87.

Bianca Ribi added to the Canadian success as she was third, 2.38 seconds adrift of her victorious team mate.

American Nicole Vogt, winner of the inaugural IBSF Women's Monobob World Series, could only manage fourth.

Vogt finished in the same place in the first race of the campaign.

This season's circuit takes on added importance as the discipline is due to make its Winter Olympic Games debut at Beijing 2022.

The IBSF women's bobsleigh combined ranking list will take into account all two-woman and monobob events held until January 16, and help determine the four National Olympic Committees eligible to enter two pilots into the monobob at Beijing 2022, with a further six allocated one quota place.

Six remaining quota places will be allocated based on the IBSF women's monobob ranking list, also covering events up to January 16.

Hosts China will also be eligible to enter one pilot if it fails to qualify through this process.

The next IBSF Women's Monobob World Series is due to take place in Lillehammer in Norway on Thursday and Friday (November 11 and 12).
