The International Ski Federation (FIS) Council has confirmed that the Norwegian resort at Lygna is to host cross-country events at the 2022 FIS Junior World Championships, following its latest online meeting.

This was approved by the Council yesterday, with the competition scheduled to take place from February 26 to March 6 2022.

France is set to hold the 2024 FIS Alpine Junior Ski Championships too, but an exact venue will not be proposed until the Council meets in Vilamoura in Portugal in May 2022 for the FIS Ski Congress.

The Council also received one application to host the 2027 FIS Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships, following an extension until October 1.

Montafon in Austria is set to host the competition, having been approved by the Council and added to the four Alpine applicants and one Nordic candidate for the 2027 Championships.

Reports from the upcoming Beijing 2022 and Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics were received, as well as hosts of the future FIS World Championships.

Slovakia was approved for full FIS membership by the Council, which needs a final confirmation from the Congress in May.

Saudi Arabia and Uruguay were approved as associate members, while Thailand moved up from associate to full member.

After Vilamoura holds the FIS Congress in person in May, the next Congress is set to take place online, in line with statutes.
