Leading United States athletics coach Rana Reider is to be investigated following sexual abuse allegations made against him.

Multiple complaints of sexual misconduct were made against Reider, with US Center for SafeSport, an independent body that investigates complaints into abuse and misconduct in Olympic sports, set to open its investigation, per The Guardian.

Reider, 51, is a world-leading trainer, including coaching Canada's Andre de Grasse to the 200 metres gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics this summer.

At his Tumbleweed Track Club in Florida, Reider has also coached the US' triple jump world champion Christian Taylor and British sprinters Adam Gemili and Daryll Neita.

The British athletes have been told to cut ties with Reider.

The report states UK Athletics (UKA) instructed Gemili and Neita to cease contact with Reider or face their lottery funding being cut.

In a statement, UKA said: "As part of UK Athletics commitment to ensuring appropriate conduct is consistent across all areas without any exceptions, we completed additional due diligence where issues have been raised about the support personnel of UK athletes.

"Following information from the US Centre for SafeSport that multiple complaints of sexual misconduct have been made against coach Rana Reider and that an investigation in the US is imminent, UK Athletics has informed UK athletes currently being coached by him to cease all association until the conclusion of this process."

Reider's lawyer, Ryan Stevens, has vehemently denied the allegations, saying: "SafeSport hasn’t issued a notice of allegations to Rana.

"The suspicious timing and motives attached to these unproven attacks on Rana’s reputation need to be fully investigated and vetted, and they haven’t been."

Steven added to BBC Sport: "We look forward to the investigative and vetting process to ensure fairness and due process to Rana.

"Frankly, it's unfair to drag Rana's reputation through the mud before an investigation into any alleged complaints has even taken place."

Reider joined UKA after the London 2012 Olympics.

In July, US Center for SafeSport suspended disgraced coach Alberto Salazar for "sexual and emotional misconduct."

Salazar was the lead coach at the Nike Oregon Project, from which several athletes have accused him of abusing them sexually and emotionally.
