The Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup is set to return to Dubai tomorrow and will run until November 6 with hosts, the United Arab Emirates, drawn into Group A against European champions Portugal.

Africa's number one nation Senegal has also been drawn into the group alongside Spain at the 10th edition of the tournament, which is set to take place on Kite Beach.

Group B will see a heavyweight clash between Russia and Iran.

Russia recently won the 2021 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup while Iran is the defending champion of the Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup.

Beach Soccer World Cup silver medallist Japan also features in Group B and should not be written off despite the intimidating opposition it is set to face.

Japan will be led by captain and one of the world's best players, Ozu Moreira, who has been nominated for the Best Player of the Year Award with the winner to be announced on November 6.

Paraguay makes up the numbers in the group and will do well to take anything from Russia, Iran and Japan.

"We are really excited about the 10th Tecnotree Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup, a tournament which was born here in Dubai in 2011 and has produced some of beach soccer’s most memorable moments since," said Saeed Hareb, secretary general of Dubai Sports Council.

"This year we will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of this hugely popular event.

"It is a special milestone, and the fact we will be celebrating this milestone at a time when Dubai is hosting Expo 2020 makes it even more memorable for us.

"Like every year, UAE’s passionate beach soccer fans - and there are plenty of them here because the stands are almost always full - can expect five days of electrifying action and edge-of-the-seat entertainment."

There have been three winners of the tournament since the inaugural edition in 2011.

Each of Russia, Brazil and Iran have won three titles with Iran winning the previous two.

Portugal will meet Senegal in the first game of the tournament at 4pm local time tomorrow before Russia meet Japan in a rematch of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup final.

The final and bronze medal match are then scheduled to take place on Saturday (November 6).
