Tlali Rampoona has been elected as the Lesotho National Olympic Committee's (LNOC) new President.

Rampoona is a former LNOC vice-president and follows Matlohang Moiloa-Ramoqopo, who led the LNOC for 12 years

Rampoona received 37 votes compared to the 13 amassed by challenger Khiba Mohoanyane, local newspaper Metro reported.

Lebohang Khomari was voted vice-president for finance and Letsatsi Ntsibolane vice-president for adminisration.

Thabo Tikoe was elected LNOC treasurer, Fetang Selialia public relations officer and 'Makutloano Kheola, 'Mabokang Mdandalaza and 'Mamots'abi  Lekhabunyane complete the eight-person Board.

The outgoing Moiloa-Ramoqopo is an International Olympic Committee member and Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa vice-president.


New President Rampoona told the Metro that future planning was top of his agenda.

"We used to have an eight-year strategic plan which was however disrupted by the COVID-19 outbreak," said Rampoona.

"But we need to immediately meet and map the way forward, where we will have to double our efforts in order to realise our goals."

Lesotho sent two athletes to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics - Neheng Khatala, who came 20th in the women's marathon, and Khoarahlane Seutloali, who placed 67th in the men's race.

The nation is still waiting for its first Olympic medal.
