The International University Sports Federation (FISU) has visited Yekaterinburg one year before the 2022 FISU University World Cup Combat Sports, which is being hosted by the Russian city.

The 2022 FISU University World Cup Combat Sports features six medal events - boxing, karate, muaythai, sambo, wrestling and wushu - and will follow the university versus university format of other FISU University World Cups.

The FISU was inspecting venues planning to be used - including the primary venue, the Yekaterinburg-EXPO Exhibition Centre - the accommodation for officials and athletes and other functional areas set to play key logistical roles in organising the competition.

In attendance was FISU World University Championships manager Julien Carrel and FISU University World Cups sports manager Pauline Hamonic, as well as various members of the Organising Committee representing each reporting functional area.

"We were impressed at how well prepared the Organising Committee was and are confident that they will put on a spectacular event of the highest standard," said FISU secretary general and chief executive Eric Saintrond.

"I believe that they will be more than ready to host the 2022 FISU University World Cup Combat Sports, which will also be a very useful test event for the Yekaterinburg 2023 FISU World University Games.

"Congratulations to the Organising Committee and we wish them the best of luck in preparation for this event."

The Yekaterinburg 2022 FISU University World Cup Combat Sports will be held from September 19 to October 8 2022.

It is set to serve as the largest in a series of test events for the Yekaterinburg 2023 FISU World University Games.
