France edged out Germany as group stage play continued on day four of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Thomas and Uber Cup at the Ceres Park and Arena in Aarhus, Denmark.

In the Uber Cup, the women’s competition, the match of the day saw France defeat Germany 3-2, with Yaelle Hoyaux sealing victory for France in the tie by beating Antonia Schaller in the fourth match.

The other Group A contest was a one-sided affair with holders Japan overcoming Indonesia 5-0 without dropping a set.

In Group B Thailand were in imperious form as they beat Spain 5-0 without dropping a set, while India recovered from losing the opening women’s singles encounter to beat Scotland 4-1.

The other Uber Cup match came in Group D with China beating Denmark 5-0, in a tie where two of the matches went to three games.

In the Thomas Cup, the men’s competition, India registered a whitewash win over Tahiti 5-0 in Group C, going through the tie without losing a game.

China managed the same feat in the other Group C contest, defeating The Netherlands 5-0, and winning every match in straight games.

In Group D, Malaysia continued the pattern of whitewash wins in the men’s event, beating Canada 5-0 without dropping a game throughout the tie.
