A new element has been approved by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), naming its latest point-scoring manoeuvre in rhythmic gymnastics after Russian Lala Kramarenko.

The 16-year-old is the author of the bent leg pirouette, which awards the gymnast a score of 0.5 points from a standing position and 0.6 from a floor position.

To successfully perform a Kramarenko, the athlete must have their free leg bent at 30 degrees.

It is part of the 2022-2024 Code of Points, with the highest rotation difficulty giving a score of 0.7 points.

In 2021, she won team gold at the European Championships in Varna in Bulgaria.

At the 2019 Junior World Championships on home soil in Moscow, Kramarenko won the ball, clubs and team titles, and the previous year won gold in ball, ribbon and team disciplines at the Junior European Championships.

She was taken to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as a reserve to the Averina twins, Dina and Arina.

By having an element named after her, Kramarenko follows in the footsteps of Russian rhythmic gymnast Alina Kabaeva, a two-time Olympic gold medallist.

Kabaeva is also a multiple world and European champion although her results from the 2001 Goodwill Games and World Championships were declared void after she tested positive for banned substance furosemide at the Goodwill Games.

Russians Zarina Gizikova and Daria Trubnikova are also mentioned in the Code of Points.
