Team Kraken emerged victorious at the first leg of the Global Esports Tour in Los Angeles, beating Team Gryphon - the team who defeated them in the first match of the tournament - in the final.

It makes the team of Jeffrey "TrumpSC" Shih, Jerome "Monsanto" Faucher and Mihai "languagehacker" Dragalin the first winners on the inaugural Global Esports Tour, having excelled over two days playing the online strategy card game Hearthstone.

They defeated Team Gryphon - comprised of David "Killinallday" Acosta, Jeffrey "Tarei" Liu and Mark "Ant" Trevino - by a 4-2 scoreline in the final, having lost their first match of he event 4-1 against the same opposition.

languagehacker's win in game six ensured a Gryphon comeback would not be possible by reinstating the two-point lead.

Despite being bottom of the table at the start of the competition, a 4-3 victory over Frank "Fr0zen" Zhang's Team Mammoth and a 4-0 win against Alexandra "Alliestrasza" MacPherson's Team Phoenix took Kraken to the final.

"Thank you Global Esports Federation (GEF)," TrumpSC said afterwards.

"This was a lit tournament.

"We really love what you are doing for esports.

"The cities chosen are the hot spots in the world for esports."

Four teams from North America were invited to take part in best-of-seven contests for a $50,000 (£37,200/€43,000) prize.

The Global Esports Tour is an invitational competition circuit formed by the GEF and esports platform FACEIT.

Two more legs are scheduled to come in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia from October 21 to 23 and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates from November 26 to 27.
