The Brazilian Floorball Association (ABF) has been confirmed as a "recognised entity" by the Olympic Committee of Brazil (COB).

The ABF’s request to gain the lofty status was unanimously agreed by the COB Board of Directors at a recent meeting.

ABF President Adriano Serafim said the backing of the COB highlighted the improvements made at the organisation.

"ABF in recent years has dedicated itself to improving its corporate governance and transparency, in addition to keeping itself updated in accordance with Brazilian laws," said Serafim.

"Receiving from the COB our recognition as a national floorball management entity only demonstrates ABF’s seriousness and commitment to the growth of floorball in Brazil."

Other ABF officials hailed the COB recognition as a major moment for the sport as it continues to grow in Brazil.

"This recognition will be very important for the next steps that Brazilian Floorball will reach," said Tiago Macarin, sports director of the ABF.

"Those who did not know the sport will have opportunities to know it, including the media, physical education professionals and future athletes."

ABF vice-president Rafael Pasqua added: "The International Floorball Federation asked all countries to approach their Olympic Committees so that floorball grows more and more and soon becomes an Olympic sport.

"We, as the highest sports entity in Brazil, have achieved this important goal for floorball worldwide."
