Italy claimed two of the first three gold medals on offer at the European Field Archery Championships in Poreč.

Italian archers won both the junior mixed compound and junior mixed barebow titles, while the junior mixed recurve honours went to Slovenia.

Sofia Caccia and Michea Godano secured the compound crown with a one-point victory over Croatia's Lara Drobnjak and Mihael Curic.

A narrow 84-83 triumph propelled the Italian duo to the top of the podium at the expense of the home team, who were forced to settle for silver.

Eleonora Meloni and Matteo Seghetta took the barebow gold medal by defeating a mixed-nationality team of Kathryn Morton and Gasper Bolcina 59-57 in the final.

The other title decided today was clinched by Slovenia's Metka Obljubek and Martin Mihevc, who consigned Croatia to another second-place finish with a comfortable 76-69 victory against Ana Stimac and Leo Sulik.

The tournament is due to continue with individual matches tomorrow as attention returns to senior competitions in the barebow, recurve and compound disciplines.
