Russia won both men's and women's gold in 3x3 basketball, as they collected 11 gold medals on Day 5 of the Games of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Countries.

Russia - comprised of Viktoriia Trofimova, Ekaterina Lyalina, Anastasiia Rykova and Anastasiia Pizhenko - defeated Belarus in the women's final 22-16 after establishing an early lead and never relinquishing their control over the match.

"The mood is excellent, it cannot be otherwise - we won!" Trofimova said.

"It was hard, we tuned in for this game, since the Belarusian team is strong, but today we were stronger."

In the men's competition, Russian beat Azerbaijan 21-17 to set up a repeat of the women's final against Belarusi, who defeated Uzbekistan in a landslide 22-5 victory.

Come the final, Russia again showed their class, moving 18-9 in front.

Belarus produced a stirring fightback to draw within two points, but ultimately fell short, losing 18-21.

Russian player Mikhail Ermilov, who also expressed his eagerness to get the team to the Paris 2024 Olympics, said: "A good tournament, the games lasted for two days, with differences.

"Perhaps the weather played a role.

"Maybe not completely tuned in.

"But we showed the result, took the first place, although there should have been no hassle in the final, but should have won calmly."

Russia also dominated the only day of belt wrestling Koresh action, winning nine of 10 gold medals available.

The nine winners included Albert Sakhabiev in the 120-kilogram division, Vasiliev Vadim in the 85kg and Zarif Valitov in the 60kg.

The fighter to resist the Russian onslaught was Jamal Eyziev of Azerbaijan, who won the AK division.

The first medals in rifle and pistol shooting were also won on Day 5, with Muhammad Kamalov of Uzbekistan winning the men's pistol 10 metres title and Arina Altukhova of Kazakhstan winning the women's rifle 50m three positions gold.

The Games of the CIS Countries continues tomorrow with medals awarded in rifle and pistol shooting, sambo, shotgun shooting and thai boxing.
