The first day of the United World Wrestling (UWW) Beach Wrestling World Series on Rome's Lido di Ostia  saw group matches played out across all divisions.

Georgia won all four of the men’s events at the last Beach Wrestling World Series event in Saint Laurent du Var in France, and got off to a strong start in the Italian capital.

World Beach Games 2019 gold medallist Levan Kelekhsashvili won both of his matches in the under-70-kilograms Group A, and so too did Davit Khutsishvili at 80kg.

Dato Marsagishvili did likewise in the 90kg Group A, and there were two wins as well for Mamuka Kordzaia in the over-90kg Group B.

Azerbaijan's world champion Oyan Nazariani also picked up two wins in Group A of the over-90kg event.

Romanian Cătălina Axente was the only one of the past winners who failed to get off the mark on the first day in Rome, losing her over-70kg Group B clash with Ukraine’s Iryna Pasichnyk.

The groups draw to a close tomorrow, followed by the elimination rounds and the finals in each of the eight events.
