Frenchman Marc-Antoine Olivier and Anna Olasz from Hungary tasted victory at the second International Swimming Federation (FINA) Marathon Swim World Series leg of the season in North Macedonia.

Racing in Lake Ohrid a week after it hosting the season-opening FINA UltraMarathon Swim Series races which were both won by French athletes, the country was victorious once more in the men's event today.

Olivier touched the finishing board after 1 hour 54min 54.6sec - completing the 10-kilometre course a little more than two seconds faster than runner-up Niklas Frach.

The German finished in 1:54:56.7, with Russian Kiril Abrosimov the bronze medallist in 1:54:58.0.

Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Kristof Rasovszky og Hungary came fourth.

Olivier also won the first race of the season in Qatar, so has a commanding lead in he overall Marathon Swim World Series standings.

Olasz won the women's race in 2:04:26.4, again a little more than two seconds faster than the runner-up.

Giulia Gabbrielleschi from Italy was that athlete, with France's Caroline Jouisse third.

Olasz's victory will go some way to making up for the frustration of a fourth-place finish at the Olympics.

The next Marathon Swim World Series leg is due to be in Taiwanese waters, but no date has yet been set.
