Marianne Vos of The Netherlands won the penultimate stage of the Holland Ladies Tour after a sprint finish with compatriot Chantal van den Broek-Blaak and Poland's Kasia Niewiadoma.

The 34-year-old fended off pressure in the run in to the line, which featured a short climb, as Niewiadoma attacked.

Vos stayed on the Polish rider’s wheel and waited for the road to flatten slightly before launching her sprint with 150 metres to go to take the win.

Van den Broek-Blaak, who started the day 10 seconds behind the general classification's leader Marlen Reusser of Switzerland, could not follow either Niewiadoma’s attacks or Vos’ sprint.

However, the SD Worx rider, who is in her final full season as a professional, now sits at the top of the general classification after Reusser finished 23 seconds back.

Lorena Wiebes of The Netherlands was among those who could not take part today following the previous stage which was littered with crashes.

Australia's Sarah Roy, Christine Majerus of Luxembourg and Italians Elena Cecchini and Barbara Guarischi also missed out.

As well as those taken out of the race as a result of injury, the whole of the Ceratizit-WNT team were unable to start stage four after a positive coronavirus case within the group.

The final day of racing on the Holland Ladies Tour was initially planned to be a point-to-point race from Arnhem to Posbank but stage five will now take the form of a short circuit in the former.

It is a flat and technical circuit with explosive racing expected and the potential of another bunch sprint to decide the overall winner.

Jumbo-Visma's Vos is currently third in the individual International Cycling Union (UCI) Women's WorldTour standings.

Double Tokyo 2020 medallist Annemiek van Vleuten - of Movistar - currently sits 838 points clear of second-place SD Worx athlete Demi Vollering as Dutch cyclists dominate the series.

Van Vleuten won gold in the time trial and silver in the road race at the last Olympics.
