Russia fought back to stun defending champions the United States and reach the quarter-finals of the women's event at the International Basketball Federation 3x3 Under-18 World Cup in Debrecen in Hungary.

The Russians faced a difficult task but overcame it with flying colours as they recovered to defeat a previously unbeaten US 20-17.

Victory ensured they claimed the second and final available place in the quarter-finals in Pool B.

Anastasiia Bocharova led the way for Russia as she scored 11 of her side's 20 points in a triumph which rendered Belarus' 22-10 thrashing of Mongolia obsolete.

Russia will play Hungary in the last eight after they completed their pool stage campaign with a 13-12 win over Estonia.

The US had earlier cemented top spot in the pool by easing to a 21-18 victory against Mongolia.

Russia had given themselves a chance of progressing when they defeated Slovenia 20-19.

In the men's tournament, Egypt continued their commanding start to their title defence by ending the group stage with a 100 per cent record.

Egypt won both of their matches today to secure top spot in C as they beat Belarus 20-17 and Germany 13-10.

The Egyptians will face Kazakhstan, who overcame Brazil 21-13, in the quarter-finals.

Belarus edged out Israel 21-20 to finishing second behind Egypt and set up a meeting with Ukraine.

The tournament is scheduled to continue tomorrow.
