Sakis Pragalos will return as President of the European Taekwondo Union (ETU) after being announced as the only candidate in September's election.

The Greek, who has held the role since 1999, is now set for another four-year term which will take him through to 2025.

He will be unopposed at the ETU's General Assembly which will take place in Istanbul alongside the President's Cup competition, planned for between September 15 and 22.

New ETU statutes adopted this year state that elected officials can serve three consecutive terms in any role before a compulsory break of at least four years.

But terms served before these reforms do not count towards a candidate's limit.

As ETU President, Pragalos automatically became a vice-president of World Taekwondo.

He replaced Marco Saila of Spain as President 23 years ago, becoming the fifth head of the ETU.

Four candidates have put themselves forward for ETU vice-president positions and all are incumbents.

They are Metin Sahin of Turkey, Jesus Castellanos Pueblas of Spain, Angelo Cito of Italy and Russia's Anatoli Terekhov.

Twenty-one other officials will battle it out for a place on the ETU Board, while the only candidate for auditor is Hungary's Marton Zsolt.

The elections will be held at the Pullman Hotel and Convention Center in Istanbul.

It is expected that member countries will be present to cast their votes in person.

European athletes won five of the eight gold medals available at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games last month.
