Swiss wildcard Jil Teichmann continued her fairytale run at the Cincinnati Masters by beating Czech Republic's Karolína Plíšková to set up a meeting in the final with top seed Ashleigh Barty.

World number 76 Teichmann, who has overcome the likes of Naomi Osaka and Olympic champion Belinda Bencic at the tournament, swept aside fifth seed Plíšková 6-2, 6-4 to reach the final of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) 1000 event.

Tomorrow's match with Barty, who defeated Germany's Angelique Kerber 6-2, 7-5 in her semi-final, will be the biggest match of Teichmann's career.

It is the 24-year-old's first final above WTA-250 level.

"I have been working a lot on many different aspects," Teichmann said.

"Mentally I have been working [on] my strokes and I have had injuries, so I had to work a lot physically, as well.

"Long weeks, long hours - I guess just the positives getting together right now this week."

In the men's event, Andrey Rublev upset top seed and Russian compatriot Daniil Medvedev to book his place in a final against Olympic champion Alexander Zverev.

Rublev fought back from a set down to claim a 2-6 6-3 6-3 victory, the first of his career over Medvedev.

German Zverev ousted Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas - who caused controversy at the event after he said he would not get the COVID-19 vaccine unless the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour makes it mandatory - 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 in a gruelling encounter.

"In the middle of the second set I felt low energy and my stomach wasn't great," Zverev.

"I broke him at 4-2 in the third and went outside the court and did my thing.

"I started to feel better, the doctor came out and gave me a little medicine and my stomach started to calm down a little.

"The energy came back but I think that was also adrenaline."
