The International Sambo Federation (FIAS) President's Cup is to take place in Saint Petersburg tomorrow at the Sibur Arena Concert and Sports Complex.

The one-day event will feature 56 of the best male sambists in the world in seven different weight categories - under-58 kilograms, 64kg, 71kg, 79kg, 88kg, 98kg and over-98kg.

Eight athletes will compete in each weight category, with 21 countries represented.

Fighters from Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Croatia, France, Georgia, Greece, Iran, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Morocco, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Tajikistan, the United States, Uzbekistan and Venezuela will be competing for victory.

Among them are five world champions.

Russian Sergey Ryabov is in the 88kg field and is the reigning 90kg world champion.

His compatriot Artem Osipenko, who will be competing in heavyweight class, is the reigning over-100kg world champion.

Fellow Russian Nikita Kletskov, fighting at 71kg in Saint Petersburg, won the 68kg world title in Novi Sad in 2020.

Aliaksandr Koksha of Belarus is one to watch in the 79kg category and the reigning 74kg world champion.

Veteran fighter Andrei Kazusionak of Belarus won the 100kg world title in Serbia last year and will be a formidable opponent in the 98kg group.

A prize fund of $10,000 (£7,000/€8,500) is to be awarded to the winners of each class.
