The 100-day countdown to the World Table Tennis Championships, which are set to take place in Houston in the United States, has been celebrated with a logo launch.

Scheduled to run from November 23 to 29, the event marks a return to world competition after the 2020 World Team Table Tennis Championships were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Houston is set to be the first city in the Americas to host the competition, which is to be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

It is also to be the first time since 1939 that the World Championships are held outside Europe and Asia.

The men's and women's singles events are to feature 128-player fields; there will be 64 pairs in the men's, women's and mixed doubles.

The new logo depicts the US flag as a table tennis table, with a ball bouncing on the surface.

The World Table Tennis Championships were last held in 2019 in Hungarian capital Budapest.

Chinese players won all five world titles.

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) is to host its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Presidential election during the World Championships too, following a legal advice to postpone it from September.

Set for November 24, ITTF President Thomas Weikert is expected to seek re-election at the AGM, with the German official currently facing the challenge of Sweden's Petra Sörling.

The deadline for nominations to the ITTF Executive Committee, the Board of Directors and various committees is Thursday (August 26).
