Cuba are set to defend their title at the Men’s North, Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) Continental Volleyball Championship, which begins tomorrow at Durango in Mexico.

Cuba have been drawn in a strong looking Pool B alongside the United States, runners-up at the previous edition in 2019, Dominican Republic and Guatemala.

Hosts Mexico feature in Pool A, alongside Canada, Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago.

The United States are being led for the NORCECA continental tournament by Josh Tauniga, an alternate for the team that placed tenth at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Cuba beat the US 3-1 in the final in 2019, when the tournament was played at Winnipeg in Colorado, and a rematch between the two nations is scheduled to take place on Friday (August 20) as part of the final round of pool matches.

The US begin this year’s event when they take on Guatemala tomorrow, with Cuba taking on the Dominican Republic later in the day in the other Pool B encounter scheduled for day one.

In Pool B Canada begin against Puerto Rico while hosts Mexico round off the opening day’s play against Trinidad and Tobago.

The tournament is scheduled to run until Monday (August 23).
