The Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) has added a further four athletes to its team for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games later this month, taking its total up to 139.

A team of 135 was announced on July 14, and four athletes have now been added to take part in Para athletics events for blind and visually impaired athletes.

Sara Fernández will compete in the long jump T12.

This is set to be her second appearance at a Paralympics, having featured in the women’s 100 metres and long jump in the T12 categories at Rio 2016.

Eduardo Uceda joins the team, and will run in the 400m T11 category with his guide Jorge Gutiérrez.

The fourth addition to the Spanish contingent is guide Enric Martín.

His presence will enable Sara Martínez, competing at her fifth Paralympics, to take part in the 400m T12 as well as the long jump T12, in which she finished fourth at Rio 2016 and second at the World Championships in London in 2017.

Spain’s team features 124 athletes with disabilities, 15 support athletes and 86 other members of staff.

It will enter athletes in 15 sports.

Teresa Perales is the team’s most decorated member, appearing at her sixth Paralympics and winning 26 medals including seven golds.

At Rio 2016, Spain’s 127 athletes earned 31 medals, including nine golds.

There are 22 sports scheduled on the programme for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, due to take place from August 24 to September 5.
