The Singapore Cycling Federation (SCF) has partnered with the Singapore Cybersports & Online Gaming Association (SCOGA) to promote the development of cycling esports.

Together the SCF and SCOGA will be setting up a Cycling Esports Academy that will develop various training programmes for schools and young people, building a development pathway to allow promising cyclists to experience international cycling esports competitions.

Said young people will also have access to high-performance cycling as part of the SCF’s national development and national training squads.

The two organisations will work on an annual calendar for cycling esports activities too, targetting different audiences.

The first of these is set to be a demonstration cycling esports race, to be featured on the SCOGA's Campus Legends, a university esports platform.

Student cyclists will be invited to compete from home on training platform Zwift, and the event is scheduled to take place on Saturday (August 7), broadcasted on Twitch.

"Our partnership with SCOGA is truly a significant milestone," said SCF President Hing Siong Chen.

"We have several programmes we intend to co-create and it includes the establishment of an esports academy which is meant to serve as a centre of excellence where we can train, test and organise regular competitions for specially identified and selected athletes.

"These athletes will include those from primary and secondary schools as well as institutions of higher learning.

"We are also actively pushing for the development of cycling esports and for it to be incorporated in our already established athlete development pathway - to complement mainstream cycling while at the same time, provide opportunities for a select group of athletes to compete and excel at esports competitions including schools, National/Asian/World Championships as well as the Asian Games and Olympic Games."

SCOGA was founded in 2008 and aims to elevate esports in the country through youth development, cultivating online communities and creating job opportunities.
