Fencers Larisa Korobeynikova, Adelina Zagidullina, Inna Deriglazova and Marta Martyanova won the gold medal in the women's team foil contest at Tokyo 2020.

The top seeds defeated third-seeded France 45-34 in the final, following a 45-42 semi-final win over the United States.

Both Korobeynikova and Deriglazova were part of the Russian team which won the silver medal at London 2012 in the same event, along with Aida Chanaeva and Kamila Gafurzyanova.

Deriglazova, 31, was the Olympic champion in the women's individual foil at Rio 2016 and claimed the silver medal in the same event at these Games, following a 15-13 defeat to American Lee Kiefer in the final.

With the victory in 2016, Deriglazova became the first Russian Olympic champion in the women's individual foil since the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

Deriglazova is also a three-time world individual champion and two-time European individual champion.

Korobeynikova, 34, claimed bronze in the individual event at Tokyo 2020, defeating Italian Alice Volpi in the third-place play-off.

She is a three-time world champion in the team foil and has two European team foil titles to her name.

Zagidullina is a two-time team foil world champion, also holding two golds from the European Championships and a gold from the European Games.

Her crowning achievement as an individual athlete came at the 2015 European Games in Baku, where she won the bronze medal in the women's foil.

Martyanova is the youngest member of the team at 22 and was initially a reserve before replacing Zagidullina in the semi-finals against the US, keeping her place for the final.

Despite sustaining a foot injury in her first bout of the final against France, Zagidullina kept her team in front.

Zagidullina and Martyanova made their Olympic debuts in Tokyo, while Korobeynikova and Deriglazova both competed in their third Games.
