Vitalina Batsarashkina is the Olympic 10 metre and 25m air pistol champion, becoming the first athlete from the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) team to win a gold medal at Tokyo 2020.

The 24-year-old set an Olympic record on the way to winning the 10m title, scoring 240.3 in the final.

A silver in the mixed 10m air pistol followed in the Japanese capital.

After the mixed event, the shooter said: "In the individual final, perhaps, it was more difficult, because, in it, all the mistakes accumulate, overlap one another, because the points obtained are summed up,

"Here, after each shot, everything is reset to zero, and it becomes possible to level the situation.

"I hope the team finals were interesting for the audience, that they were able to enjoy our fight with the Chinese duo."

In the 25m air pistol final, Batsarashkina tied with South Korea's Kim Minjung on 38 points, before triumphing in a shoot-off to claim her second gold of Tokyo 2020.

Batsarashkina also won an individual silver in the 10m air pistol at her first Olympic Games, Rio 2016, aged 19.

The Omsk was awarded the Order for Merits to the Fatherland of the Russian Federation, as well as the title of Honoured Master of Sport in the Russian Federation after her achievements in Brazil.
