The Organising Committee of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games is hosting a one-year-to-go celebration event on Wednesday (July 28), where it will mark 365 days until the Opening Ceremony.

A free live sports festival in Centenary Square is promised and the public will be able to meet Team England athletes, as well as watch them perform in their respective sports.

There will be a range of Birmingham 2022 merchandise available to purchase on the day and the Games' mascot Perry will be present too.

Birmingham 2022’s official nature and carbon-neutral supporter, Severn Trent Water, will have a water bar at Centenary Square, allowing visitors to refill reusable water bottles for free in a bid to reduce single-use bottles.

Organisers have encouraged those attending to take a lateral flow test before coming and to only attend if their COVID-19 result comes back negative.

Other COVID-19 advice from Birmingham 2022 includes using sanitising stations available at the event and encouraging the use of facemasks.

Birmingham 2022 will use a queueing system for high-demand sport activities too to give everyone wanting to participate appropriate space to do so.

Track and trace barcodes - so people can check-in at the venue - will also be available.

Wednesday will mark exactly a year until the next Commonwealth Games - set to run from July 28 to August 8 in 2022.
