The World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) World Cup circuit has moved on to France for La Montee du Nid d'Aigle - the third race of the season.

It follows on from the Tatra Race Run in Zakopane in Poland and the Grossglockner Berglauf at Heiligenblut in Austria.

Saint-Gervais-Les-Bains is set to host the 34th edition of La Montee du Nid d'Aigle, but it will be the first time it is part of the World Cup circuit.

The route is located next to the Italian and Swiss borders in the Haute-Savoie region.

Another classic mountain race, it is an uphill-only 19.5-kilometre course with 2,000 metres of ascent.

The route begins at Parc Thermal and follows the river before heading up to La Villette gradually.

From there, it is a steep climb to the finish at Refuge du Nid d'Aigle - 2,394m above sea level.

Britain's Charlotte Morgan and Kenya's Joyce Muthoni Njeru have won the first two races in the women's competition, while Polish athlete Marcin Kubica and Kenyan Lengen Lolurrentaru have claimed victories on the men's circuit.

In the women's race, former world champion Lucy Murigi of Kenya will bid to build on a third-place finish at the Grossglockner last week, while Susanna Saapunki of Finland is another athlete to watch after finishing fourth in Austria.

Czech Lucie Maršánová and Hungary's Timea Merenyi both ran well at Zakopane and will look for at least another top-10 finish.

France's Elise Poncet, a silver medallist at the 2019 World Championships, will be the main contender from the home nation.

Italian Henri Aymonod has finished in the top 10 in both World Cup races this year - finishing third in Zakopane and 10th in Heiligenblut.

He, and compatriot Francesco Puppi, will be among the favourites in the men's race.

Puppi is the 2019 silver medallist from the World Long Distance Championships.

Eritrean Petro Mamu will look to make the WMRA World Cup podium for the first time this season, while Frenchmen Alexandre Fine and Simon Paccard carry the hopes of the hosts on their shoulders.
