The Korean Sport and Olympic Committee (KOSC) has launched a virtual hospitality house for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The Team Korea House was launched today, with the KSOC forced to take the concept online due to COVID-19 restrictions in the Olympic host city Tokyo.

“This is the first time that Team Korea is able to invite the entire world to its virtual Team Korea House,” said Kee Heung Lee, KSOC President.

“We have prepared a unique experience that will immerse everyone using the latest technology.

“I look forward to receiving the international sports community at our Virtual Team Korea House.”

The online version of the Team Korea House features a virtual reality museum with fourteen Korean Olympic heroes.

Visitors will also be able to learn about South Korean culture, sports, and tourism.

The KSOC say a travel section will allow visitors to examine over one hundred different travel destinations, while fans of K-Pop and Korean culture can benefit from virtual reality content.

Messages of support can also be submitted to South Korean athletes who are competing at Tokyo 2020.

Visitors to the Team Korea House can learn about the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympics.

The Gangwon Province, which hosted the 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, was chosen to stage the fourth edition of the event by the International Olympic Committee in January 2020.

Gangwon 2024 is expected to use many facilities from Pyeonchang 2018, which it is claimed will ensure a cost-efficient and sustainable Youth Olympic Games.

The competition is tentatively scheduled for January 19 to February 2 in 2024.

The KSOC has expressed hope of North Korean involvement in the organisation of the event.

Relations between the two nations, who are still technically at war, appeared to thaw during the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in South Korea.

Relations have worsened since the Games, but South Korea has gone as far as proposing that Pyongyang could serve as a co-host of the event in an effort to boost their relationship.

The KSOC says visitors to the Team Korea House will be able to learn about the relationship between the two Koreas on the virtual platform.

The Team Korea House was initially introduced at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and has since become commonplace at both Olympic and Asian Games.
