France completed a golden double on the final day of the European BMX Championships at Heusden-Zolder in Belgium as their men and women won in the inaugural team time trial event.

After winning gold in the elite men’s and women’s under-23 categories on day one thanks to Arthur Pilard and Marianne Beltrando, France finished on a further high as they held off the hosts in the two final competitions.

The women’s team finished in 35 min 9.07sec, with Belgium second in 36.608 and Spain third in 39.017.

In the men’s time trial, France clocked 31.383 to finish clear of Belgium, who finished in 31.921 and Russia, who came home in 32.183.

The Netherlands were fourth in 32.392 in front of Germany, who clocked 32.465.

A total of 818 athletes from 25 countries competed in this year’s Championships.

The 2022 edition is due to be held at Dessel in Belgium from July 8 to 10.
