Jacek Pawlicki has been announced as the new President of the World Draughts Federation (FMJD).

Pawlicki was one of three candidates seeking the position at the FMJD’s Annual General Meeting in Tallinn.

Estonia’s Janek Mäggi had hoped for re-election having led the organisation since 2017, and Ukrainian Draughts Federation President Anatolii Yatsenko was also in contention.

The FMJD has announced that Pawlicki was elected President during the meeting, although no vote breakdown has been revealed.

Pawlicki previously served as European Draughts Confederation President from 1998 to 2007.

Pawlicki was the FMJD director of tournaments from 2009 to 2020 and was a member of the Technical Committee from 2001 until last year.

He had found himself at the centre of a dispute earlier this year after removing a Russian flag mid-match at the Women's World Draughts Championship to prevent the FMJD from receiving a potential sanction from the World Anti-Doping Agency.

A Russian flag had been visible during the match, which was in breach of the decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in the country's doping scandal.

France’s Richard Przewozniak secured both the vice-president and international relations manager positions at the General Assembly.

He had faced competition from Russia's Yuriy Chertok for the vice-president post, while The Netherlands’ Harry Otten and Mikhail Zakharchenko from Ukraine were candidates for the international relations role.

Latvia’s Roberts Misans was named general secretary after overcoming Russian rival Yuriy Chertok.

Estonia’s Aare Harak was returned at the organisation’s treasurer, with the official having been the sole candidate for the position.

Curaçao’s Clifton Agata was also unopposed for the role of tournament director.

The FJMD said that Lithuania’s Alexei Domchev will serve as the tournament director for youth.

He had faced competition from Turkey’s Ibragim Ismauilov and Belarus’ Youry Lipnitsky.

The General Assembly was held alongside the World Draughts Championships in Tallinn.
