Hosts Curaçao booked their spot in the final of the Caribbean Baseball Cup against favourites Cuba by thrashing Peru 18-0 in Willemstad.

The victory for the hosts confirmed a top two spot in the group of four and set up a meeting with Cuba for the title on Saturday (July 3).

Stephan Vidal was crucial to Curaçao's win, scoring two including a home run, while Phildrick Lewellyen scored three and also recorded a homer.

Darren Seferina also scored two in the rout.

Peru were only able to get one hit throughout the game, through Yun Contreras, but this did not translate to a run and Curaçao sealed the win in three innings.

Cuba are due to complete the regular phase of the event against Peru tomorrow.

The Caribbean Baseball Cup was initially set to be held in April, but the event was moved due to a surge of COVID-19 cases.

This year's tournament is dedicated to the memory of the late President of the Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) Higinio Vélez Carrión, who died in mid-May at the age of 74 after complications related to COVID-19.

He had been in head of the FCB since 2008 until his death.
