Hosts Italy remain undefeated and top of Group A following two victories on day three of the Women's European Softball Championship in Venezia.

In their opening game of the day, Italy thrashed Bulgaria 27-0, helped in part by Giulia Longhi's two home runs as her side concluded the game in just three innings - with Italy scoring nine runs in each of them.

Longhi and Andrea Howard recorded a mammoth seven runs batted in (RBI) each too.

Italy close the third day of the event with a 19-0 victory over Hungary - scoring 10 runs in the first inning and nine in the second.

Howard impressed again, hitting two home runs and the Tokyo 2020-bound hosts did not need to bat in the third inning.

Bulgaria won the first game played today, winning 8-2 against Hungary, who are winless at the foot of Group A following the initial round-robin phase.

Sara Marcova was pivotal to the win, hitting a single to left field to start off the scoring and finished the game with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Spain claimed a 4-1 win against Ukraine in a low-scoring affair in Group D.

Maria Caicoya split the sides by stealing bases in the first and eventually scoring a run, before Uxua Modrego and Carla Segura put Spain 3-0 up with runs in the third.

Although Yelyzaveta Myronchenko ran in to pull one back for Ukraine, Roser Jonas ended the seventh inning with a run in from a Segura at-bat.

In the other Group D game, France smashed Slovakia 13-0, helped by scoring nine runs in the opening inning.

Kimane Rogron and Pauline Prade both scored three runs, while Eloise Tribolet scored two as well as having three RBIs.

The Netherlands smashed 16 runs past Lithuania in Group B in just two innings, with Marielle Vleugels, Dinet Oosting and Annemiek Jansen also scoring two RBIs.

The Czech Republic won 8-0 against Croatia in Group C with Alice Skardova and Eliska Thompsonova both scoring two runs each.

Israel hit seven past Denmark in the opening two innings on their way to a 13-3 victory, partly thanks to a home run from Alexis Jordan Kaiser who got the first two runs of the game, while Germany's Katharina Szalay's home run and another run helped her side to a 7-3 win over Austria in Group B.

Russia scored nine runs in the fourth inning to put their game to bed against Poland, winning 11-0.

Grace Perechinsky's home run contributed to a four-RBI day, playing a large part in her team's rout.

At the end of the first round-robin stage, Italy, Israel, The Netherlands and Spain finished top by winning all of their games.

The Czechs, Germany, France and Russia also advanced.
