Teqball player Carolyn Greco has said she considers herself as one of the "pioneers of the sport" as she looks to help it grow in the United States.

Greco was a promising footballer before turning her attention to teqball, becoming one of the stars of the LA Teqers.

She is also the co-founder of the BellaTeq – the world’s first all-women’s teqball team.

"We like to think of ourselves as pioneers of the sport, and we feel really lucky to be in the place that we are - and hopefully one day we'll get to play on a world stage, and maybe even one day be an Olympic medallist," Greco told Spectrum News 1.

"We definitely make it into a community and family, and I think that's why people love teqball too.

"It is a whole soccer community that we're a part of - a soccer culture that we're a part of here in Los Angeles."

Teqball was founded in 2012 in Hungary and is now played in 83 countries around the world.

It is also set to make its debut appearance at the European Games in Kraków-Małopolska in 2023.

"I know I'm not the only one with this goal to go to the World Cup, go to the Olympics, which is really neat - for a lot of professional soccer players, this is a whole new opportunity, and a lot of people are excited about it," said Greco.

LA Galaxy midfielder Victor Vazquez also revealed that he enjoys playing teqball ahead of football matches.

"People from South America, Latino people, would love this kind of sport, like football," said Vazquez.

"I think also in the US, they are getting used to it.

"I think everyone should try it because you're gonna have a lot of fun."

Teqball USA chief executive Ajay Nwosu added: "For us, bringing the sport to the US is something special.

"In the community, we've kind of graduated and culminated here in LA."
